Phoenix, AZ ( — Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has officially dropped Planned Parenthood from a health fair that her administration is sponsoring. The move has upset officials with the abortion business, but won her praise from pro-life advocates who say Brewer is quickly becoming a better governor than pro-abortion Janet Napolitano.

Planned Parenthood Arizona had requested to be a participant in this year’s Women’s Health Expo, a one-day event at two locations in Maricopa County that featured community groups with booths and information.

The governor’s of Children, Youth and Families coordinated the event, which saw the participation of more than 60 organizations, except Planned Parenthood. Brewer’s office reportedly rejected its request to be involved.

“The organization was never invited to the event by Gov. Brewer,” press aide Paul Senseman said, according to the East Valley Tribune. “It is certainly no secret that the governor has a pro-life track record and accomplishments dating back to her very first years as an elected official at the Arizona Legislature."

“I understand that the event went off just fine last year without their participation,” he added.

Brewer’s move, which has delighted pro-life groups, comes one month after she reversed a Napolitano policy that rejected abstinence education funds from the federal government.

It also follows on the heels of her becoming the first sitting governor to attend the annual dinner for the Center for Arizona Policy, a pro-life and pro-family group.

Bryan Howard, the president of Planned Parenthood, told the Tribune that he did not plan to have abortion brochures at the health expo. However, Planned Parenthood would disseminate general brochures that tout its abortions.

Arizona Catholic Conference director Ron Johnson praised Brewer for rejecting Planned Parenthood.

"The Arizona Catholic Conference would like to thank Governor Jan Brewer and her staff for standing firm against Planned Parenthood’s insistence that they be a part of the Women’s Health Expo & Conference being organized by the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth, and Families," he told

"There are a number of organizations able to provide quality information on women’s health. Planned Parenthood’s assertion that their absence from this event ‘is alarming and dangerous’ is itself absurd and rightfully being ignored," he added.
