Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — One of the leading pro-life groups involved in political activities has launched a new campaign to target abortion advocates in the 2010 election. The Susan B. Anthony List has hired a former member of Congress to head the campaign to take back Congress from pro-abortion lawmakers.

The new project SBA List project, called “Votes Have Consequences," will feature pro-life former Rep. Marilyn Musgrave, who lose her bid for re-election to her northern Colorado seat last year.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, the president of the group, told LifeNews.com about the significance of the new effort.

She says it is no Parthian shot, but a pro-active effort to restore a pro-life majority to Congress so more laws can be approved that help women and save lives. She says the actions of Obama and his pro-abortion friends on Capitol Hill make it so pro-life advocates need to get started now thinking about 2010.

“What is taking place in the stem cell arena this week is proof that those of us involved in upholding pro-life initiatives need to quickly move forward with definitive strategic plans to go on the offense in order to protect the unborn," she said.

"Our announcement this week is one that we are very excited about and pro-life Americans will be extremely pleased with the news," she added.

Musgrave talked with CBN News about the need for a pro-active pro-life election project like the one SBA List is sponsoring.

"Votes do have consequence and this project is going to make sure we are not always on the defensive," she said.

Musgrave indicated the project will focus on pro-abortion members of Congress elected in districts like hers were the majority of voters take a pro-life position.

"We’re going into districts where individuals are vulnerable and we’re just going to make sure people know how these individuals have voted and what their record is," she said.

"We’re going to be assertive. We’re going to be aggressive and this is a new day in politics for the pro-life movement," Musgrave added.

The SBA List has not yet identified which members of Congress will be targeted for defeat because of their abortion advocacy, but the group plans ambitious advertising campaigns combining television, print, radio and Internet.

The group won’t wait for 2010 to come but will start highlighting offensive votes now, CBN News indicates.
