Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The launch of the Spring 40 Days for Life campaign is just over a week away and coordinators are excited because it will kick off in more than 130 cities across America, Canada, Australia, and Northern Ireland. This is the first time the prayerful educational effort will have such a global reach.
"With more than a week still to go before this campaign commences, the buzz about 40 Days for Life is building in intensity all across the Internet," Spring Campaign Director Shawn Carney tells LifeNews.com.
Northern Ireland’s leading pro-life group Precious Life is participating in the campaign and Bernadette Smyth talked with LifeNews.com about it.
Precious Life say it hopes the 40 day campaign will inspire people who have never been involved in pro-life activities to come forward and join the pro-life movement.
The group has already started to distribute thousands of campaign leaflets across Northern Ireland.
"Communities across Ireland and Britain will be uniting for the largest simultaneous pro-life mobilisation in history," Smyth said. "We will be praying and fasting for the protection of Ireland from abortion and the repeal of the 1967 Abortion Act in Britain.
During three previous 40 Days for Life campaigns, more than 175,000 faithful people in 204 cities participated in 40 days of prayer for an end to abortion, peaceful events outside abortion centers, and grassroots community outreach and education.
Carney says the campaign has already paid dividends apart from energizing local pro-life advocates.
"By the grace of God, 40 Days for Life has already helped to save more than 1,100 children from death by abortion, led thirteen clinic workers to walk away from the abortion industry, and contributed to the closure of three abortion centers," he said.
The Spring campaign begins on February 25 and ends April 5 — one of the largest and longest coordinated pro-life initiatives ever.
Carney is asking for more local pro-life advocates to sign up to get involved in their own campaign.
"You will then receive information on the plans for your nearby 40 Days for Life, and how you can help make an impact," he explains. "Then, help spread the word to everyone you know about the spring 40 Days for Life."
