London, England (LifeNews.com) — The next election of members of the British Parliament may not take place until next summer, but a leading pro-life group is already getting to work. The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children isn’t waiting until an election is announced to begin educating and organizing pro-life voters.

SPUC’s general election campaign is starting now and it has already produced a professional flier asking voters not to forget the lives of pregnant women and unborn children when they head to vote.

The pro-life group also wants voters to keep in mind how the expansion of pro-euthanasia views is increasingly hurting the elderly, infirm and disabled.

"The date of the next general election has not been announced. It might be as late as June 2010," SPUC director John Smeaton admits. "But if we want to make the right to life a voting issue in your local constituency at the next general election, it’s essential to start work now."

"If we are going to convince a growing number of our fellow-citizens that the right to life is the most important issue facing Britain, we need to start work now," he adds. If we leave it too late, our last-minute efforts will simply be overwhelmed by media attention to other issues."

Although voters will likely continue placing economic issues at the forefront, even if the election doesn’t take place for another year and a half, Smeaton says abortion and euthanasia are life and death issues.

"With 4,000 babies killed by abortion every week, the right to life is the most important issue facing society," he says. "There are other issues, of course, but this one is so fundamental, and the scale of the injustice is so huge, it’s the top priority political issue for citizens concerned about the common good."

The general elections could have an impact on who leads the European nation.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his administration have resisted efforts to reduce or limit abortions and he has supported human cloning.

The SPUC fliers are available to purchase and distribute to churches, local communities, and pro-life friends and family.

"Please order flyers, organize a group of local volunteers, and give out the flyers as widely as possible in your local constituency," Smeaton asks.
