Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The Hollywood elite are no strangers to pro-abortion activism and yet another Hollywood actress is trading in her fame for money for a leading pro-abortion group. Candice Bergen, who is no stranger to the abortion debate, is stepping up to the plate to urge Emily’s List donors to cough up more money.

The Boston Legal and Murphy Brown actress says she is asking money for the group to help "elect strong, intelligent women to office" — as if women who possess those traits somehow can’t hold pro-life views.

While she showers praise on pro-abortion advocates, Bergen doesn’t have nice things to say about pro-life elected officials in Washington.

"Of course, you and I know that conservative Republicans and right-wing special interest groups are already laying their plans to regain power," Bergen says. "There’s no doubt Republicans realize their message isn’t working, and they’re eager to make up ground in 2010 — and Democrats have to be ready to respond."

Bergen wants the abortion activists to pony up money for the 2010 elections so abortion activists can keep their control of Congress and prepare to defend the White House.

"As committed progressive activists, we are going to have to work hard to help President Barack Obama put our country back on track. And the 2010 elections will be vital to protecting our majorities in the House and Senate and building on our success," she writes in the fundraising email.

"That’s why I recently renewed my membership to EMILY’s List, and I’m asking you to join me and become a member of EMILY’s List today," Bergen says. "EMILY’s List’s efforts were critical to the outcome of the 2008 elections — and now we have the opportunity to build on our accomplishments."

"We both know how much is at stake in this election — we must build on our majorities in the House and Senate and provide President Barack Obama the support he needs to create critical change. Not a single one of us can afford to sit this one out," the actress concludes.

"Working together as members of EMILY’s List, we can build on our 2008 victories and lay the foundation for a progressive America," Bergen writes.
