Krispy Kreme Drops "Pro-Abortion" Doughnut Promo After Pro-Life Complaints

Washington, DC ( — Executives at Krispy Kreme, one of the nation’s largest doughnut companies, got the "hole" truth when it comes to mixing politics with pastries. After national complaints, the business pulled what sounded like a pro-abortion phrase from a national marketing campaign.

In an effort to capitalize on the inauguration of Barack Obama as president, Krispy Kreme started a campaign that raised eyebrows with pro-life advocates.

"Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. is honoring America’s sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20," it said in a statement. "By doing so, participating Krispy Kreme stores nationwide are making an oath to tasty goodies — just another reminder of how oh-so-sweet ‘free’ can be."

American Life League president Judy Brown had problems with the usage of the "free choice" language that is the mantra of abortion advocates.

The group challenged the pastry maker on Thursday and, by Friday, it dropped the language from the press statement.

"We are grateful to Krispy Kreme executives who realized the inappropriate use of the phrase ‘freedom of choice’ and have changed their announcement, available on their web site," Brown told in a press release.

Brown said the phrase was offensive to her considering that Obama strongly supports unlimited abortions.

"Barack Obama is one of the most radical pro-abortion politicians ever elected president. Even though Obama claims he is not pro-abortion, but rather his ‘pro-choice’ record speaks for itself," she said. "Obama received millions of dollars from the ‘freedom-of-choice’ abortion industry because he swore that, as one of his first acts, he would sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

She said it was "offensive and demeaning to the millions who have suffered either directly or indirectly through abortion."

"Abortion is a tragedy for everyone involved in it. Thus we felt obligated to issue our original statement and subsequently communicate with Krispy Kreme," she added.

The pastry maker has said the "Inauguration Day promotion is not about any social or political issue."
