Portland, OR (LifeNews.com) — A Planned Parenthood abortion business in Oregon recently received a grant from the federal Housing and Urban Development department that will allow it to target Indian Americans. HUD’s Indian Community Block Grant program gave $50,000 to Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette’s regional service center.
While the money likely can’t be used to do abortions, the Planned Parenthood affiliate may use it to target native Americans with family planning programs and provide them with abortions when they become pregnant.
The money may also be used to help the abortion business build its new regional service center — a new building in a historically black neighborhood in Portland that will house an abortion facility and its political headquarters.
PPCW has been involved in a campaign to raise $12.5 million to fund this project, which would see the abortion center located at NE Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd and Beech Street.
The HUD grants will go along with new grants from Spirit Mountain Community Fund and The Oregon Community Foundation that officials at Planned Parenthood said bring the project’s fundraising total to $9.5 million.
Spirit Mountain Community Fund pledged $50,000 toward the expansion project, and The Oregon Community Foundation awarded PPCW a $75,000 grant toward the new facility.
PPCW says the new abortion center is expected to open in 2010 and it is expected to reach more than the current load of 60,000 annual customers it annually sees.
Shelley Hanson, the director of the Spirit Mountain Community Fund has no apologizes for the decision to fund the abortion business.
Our trustees and Tribal Council have a firm commitment to health. Providing reproductive health care helps pave the way for good decisions and healthy families. Planned Parenthood is an excellent community resource to help women make these healthy choices," she claimed.
