Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — A representative of the YWCA says its president was misquoted and that the formerly Christian women’s group does not support the radical Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA). That’s the bill that would make unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy a national law and overturn hundreds of pro-life laws in all 50 states.

As LifeNews.com reported last month, Dr. Lorraine Cole, the CEO of the YWCA, told CNS News during a press conference that her group would be fine with the FOCA bill becoming law with Obama’s signature.

“Well, the YWCA has always been pro-choice, so this is a topic that we would be very supportive of," she reportedly said.

Now, YWCA spokeswoman Nancy Loving says CNS misquoted Cole and that the YWCA doesn’t support the pro-abortion Congressional bill.
"At no point did Dr. Cole, who is the YWCA CEO, …state that we were in support of this legislation," she told OneNewsNow on Monday.

"I believe that the question that was posed to her was whether or not she thought president-elect Obama would be supporting the legislation," she added.

Loving’s contention appears to be at odds with Cole’s quote, which clearly identifies the YWCA as supporting the FOCA legislation.

In the ONN interview, Loving did reaffirm the organization’s pro-abortion view and indicated the YWCA supports a "woman’s right to choose" abortion.

Loving also claimed that a majority of men and women in the United States back abortion even though an October Marist College poll found 60 percent of Americans say abortions should never be allowed or only in the rarest of circumstances, such as rape and incest, that constitute less than two percent of all abortions nationwide. Just 40 percent took one of three pro-abortion positions.

A June Polling Company survey found pro-life Americans outnumber pro-abortion Americans by a 16 percent margin.

Loving also said the YWCA has not received much in the way of protests or emails from people complaining about its pro-abortion position.
