Atlanta, GA (LifeNews.com) — Pro-life advocates are counting on every vote to help them stop the pro-abortion agenda Barack Obama will unleash next year once he takes office. Though Obama isn’t president yet, they are already fighting him in the race to keep another pro-life vote — Saxby Chambliss — in the Senate.

Chambliss is running in a heavily contested runoff race in Georgia against a pro-abortion opponent who is getting strong support from Obama and his campaign.

"We’re stretching every dollar and doing everything we can with what we have," Chambliss said in a recent email. "Every liberal group in the country has me in their crosshairs because they know my opponent is a guaranteed vote for their far-left agenda."

Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund president Marjorie Dannenfelser described the outcome of the race as a "significant" impact on surviving the coming pro-abortion onslaught.

“The U.S. Senate desperately needs the pro-life leadership of Senator Saxby Chambliss. He will defend innocent unborn children and fight for strict constructionist Supreme Court justices who won’t legislate from the bench," Dannenfelser said.

She told LifeNews.com that the Georgia runoff is a clear case of a pro-life versus a pro-abortion candidate.

"A vote for Jim Martin is a vote for taxpayer-funded partial-birth abortion. As a state legislator, Jim Martin single-handedly refused to bring the Georgia ban on gruesome partial-birth abortion to a vote," she said. "American citizens don’t need Jim Martin’s abortion extremism in the U.S. Senate.”

Martin voted against parental notification before abortions are performed on minors. He also vowed to kill a bill that would have banned the brutal practice of partial-birth abortions. Even when 13 out of 16 colleagues from both sides of the aisle petitioned him to let the partial-birth abortion ban come up for a vote, Martin still refused.

On the other hand, Chambliss has a 100% pro-life voting record in the U.S. Senate and has repeatedly voted to limit abortions every time.

Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com that the Susan B. Anthony List is running educational ads on Christian radio that expose Jim Martin’s pro-abortion record and her group is connecting its membership with remote phone-banking facilities to make calls to Georgia voters on Senator Chambliss’ behalf.

However, Obama is sending his campaign staff to Georgia to help Martin.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution indicates that, throughout November, Obama has kept 25 of his Georgia field offices open for Martin, leaving most of his in-state paid staff here and importing about 100 field operatives from Southern states to help the fellow abortion advocate.

Last week, a Rasmussen poll found Chambliss leads 50% to 46% with another 4 percent of voters undecided. Of the group of voters most likely to vote, 51% favor Chambliss, 46% are for Martin, and three percent remain undecided.

Chambliss has the support of 95% of Republicans and leads by 10 among unaffiliated voters. Ninety percent of Democrats favor Martin.

Although Chambliss defeated Martin on Election Day, with a third-party candidate in the race, he failed to capture over 50 percent of the vote. By state law, that triggered a runoff election. The special run-off will take place on December 2.
