Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The National Right to Life political action committee has issued endorsements for Senate candidates in three states who face difficult election contests. The endorsements include incumbent pro-life senators Mitch McConnell in Kentucky, Saxby Chambliss in Georgia and Elizabeth Dole in North Carolina.

The pro-life group sent letters to all three candidates thanking them for their pro-life voting record and told LifeNews.com about the abortion contrasts in their races.

"Senator Dole has maintained a perfect, 100 percent pro-life voting record," NRLC political director Karen Cross said about the North Carolina senator.

About her opponent, Cross said "Democrat Kay Hagan favors continuation of the current policy of allowing abortion for any reason."

Cross said the same differences are seen in the Georgia race, where NRLC thanked Chambliss for his "exemplary 100 percent pro-life voting record throughout your entire six-year term in the U.S. Senate."

On the other hand, Chambliss opponent Jim Martin takes a pro-abortion view.

And in Kentucky, NRLC praised the Senate minority leader McConnell for always voting pro-life and noted his opponent, Bruce Lunsford, favors unlimited abortions.

In the letters, the pro-life group highlighted all three pro-life candidates’ votes for major legislation such as the partial-birth abortion ban and the Unborn Victims of Violence Act that protects pregnant women and their unborn children like Laci and Conner Peterson from violence.

The record of Chambliss, McConnell and Dole "also includes your consistent votes against federal funding of abortion and of organizations that promote abortion," Right to Life said.

"We are also grateful for your cosponsorship of other important pro-life bills that have not yet been enacted, including parental notification legislation and a bill to ban the practice of human cloning," the group added about the three.

"In addition, we applaud your consistent support for the confirmation of federal judicial nominees who believe that the proper judicial role is to interpret and apply the written law, not to engage in legislating from the bench," NRLC said in the letter.

"Your extraordinary pro-life record should earn you the support of every voter who is committed to preservation of the fundamental right to life and to the protection of the most vulnerable members of the human family," the group concluded.

The letters were signed by David O’Steen, the NRLC executive director, Douglas Johnson, its legislative director, and Cross.
