Chantilly, VA (LifeNews.com) — Just as a network of thousands of pregnancy centers that provide women with non-abortion pregnancy help counters the hundreds of abortion businesses, a new pro-life pharmacy that eschews abortion and birth control could be the start of new pharmacies that provide safe havens.

Those safe havens would protect pharmacists from being forced to dispense abortion drugs or birth control and allow customers to know they are supporting a pro-life option to companies that violate the consciences of medical professionals.

Divine Mercy Care Pharmacy opened today in Chantilly, Virginia with a blessing of the building by the Most Reverend Paul S. Loverde, Bishop of Arlington.

DMC pharmacy is the newest addition to the Divine Mercy Care family of healthcare services and, as its director tells LifeNews.com, it is a "pro-life pharmacy specifically designed to meet the pharmaceutical needs in a pro-life, pro-woman, and pro-family atmosphere."

The pharmacy has already sparked national attention as the Associated Press has written a story about it that will appear in newspapers nationwide on Wednesday.

DMC Pharmacy will offer “superior pharmaceutical care—both traditional and clinical services—focusing on the individual in a family-oriented, pro-life environment, free of contraceptive products and anti-life messages,” Robert Semler, the manager/pharmacist of DMC Pharmacy, told LifeNews.com.

“I am thrilled to be able to provide excellent pharmaceutical care to all who walk through the doors,” Semler said, “and I am grateful to be able to practice within the umbrella of Divine Mercy Care where my conscience will never be violated and my faith does not have to be ‘checked at the door’ each morning.”

The pharmacy will offer FDA approved prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs, and quality alternative products including vitamins, natural products, homeopathics and herbals, home health needs and special order products and equipment.

But, in keeping with Divine Mercy Care’s principles, the DMC Pharmacy will not dispense, recommend or counsel on contraceptive products.

“Divine Mercy Care is values-based and consumer-driven. Neither patients nor professionals want to abandon their conscience while they seek medical care,” said DMC president Dr. John Bruchalski. "We must not separate our faith from our work."

DMC Pharmacy is located in the Sully Place Shopping Center, next to The Catholic Shop, a well-established gift and book store.
