Pro-Life Groups Say McCain Outperformed Obama on Abortion During Debate

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Leading pro-life groups weighing in on the third and final presidential debate say John McCain clearly showed why he is head and shoulders better on abortion than Barack Obama. They pointed out the differences between the two on abortion, the Supreme Court, and partial-birth abortions.
“Obama said Roe vs. Wade was ‘rightly decided.’ He adamantly supports the very decision that results in the slaughter of nearly 4,000 unborn children every day in our country," Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com.
“When confronted with his abortion extremism, Obama dodged the issue and repeated the mantra of ‘women’s rights.’ But this is not a women’s rights issue. It is about human rights," Dannenfelser added. "And the only candidates that get it are John McCain and Sarah Palin.”
Charmaine Yoest, the president of Americans United for Life, agreed and told LifeNews.com, she was glad Bob Schieffer brought up the question of abortion after issuing a call for him to do so.
Yoest says pro-life advocates need to pay specific attention to the Supreme Court and the very real differences between Obama and McCain.
"There was no disagreement that this election will result in important changes on the Court. In many ways, this is one of the most significant issues for our country that has received the least amount of attention in this campaign," she said.
Yoest indicated Obama failed to talk about the legislation he promised to sign that would nullify every pro-life law nationwide.
"I hope the American people notice that while Barack Obama misled them about his past record on abortion, he also refused to mention what he promised Planned Parenthood in July 2007 — that the first thing he would do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA)," she said.
"FOCA is a bill pending before the US Senate that would eliminate every abortion regulation in the country including popular laws such as parental notification, informed consent, and bans on partial birth abortion," she explained. "FOCA means abortion on demand, in all nine months of pregnancy, for any reason, nationwide and paid for by your tax dollars."
"The American people deserve to know the real truth about Barack Obama’s record and position on abortion," she concluded.
