Sacramento, CA (LifeNews.com) — Popular Hispanic actor Eduardo Verastegui is weighing in again on the abortion debate just days after he made a video criticizing Barack Obama for his pro-abortion position. In a new video clip, the Bella actor endorses the parental notification measure that will appear on the California ballot next month.
Verastegui is featured in a Yes on Proposition 4 television ad unveiled by the campaign today.
Release of the Spanish-language ad comes just days after a poll of California voters showed strong support for the parental notification and child protection initiative among Latino voters.
A Field poll shows a plurality of California voters support Proposition 4 and that Latino voters favor it by even higher numbers — 62% to 31%.
In the 90-second ad, Verastegui says family involvement is the best way to ensure that a girl gets the best medical care and understands all her options.
"In California, a girl younger than 18 cannot get a tan at a tanning salon, she cannot get her ears pierced, she cannot be provided an aspirin by the school nurse without the consent of her parents," Verastegui says.
"Yet a doctor can perform a chemical or surgical abortion on such a girl without having to tell some member of her family," he says.
"Medical professionals know that a girl is safer when her parents or someone in her family is informed of the medical situation," Verastegui explains.
He also notes that adult men who sexually abuse young girls often resort to secret abortions to cover up their crimes.
"It is common for adult males to get minors pregnant and then to resort to secret abortions to hide their sexual crimes," Verastegui continues.
He says the 30 other states that have parental involvement laws have seen reductions in the number of abortions and sexually-transmitted diseases.
Verastegui is well known among Spanish-speakers for his roles in various popular soap operas, viewed in more than 20 countries worldwide, including an estimated audience of more than 10 million in the United States. Early in his career, Verastegui toured the world as a member of the popular Mexican singing group Kairo.
