Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — The Knights of Columbus, an international lay group for men in the Catholic Church, has started the airing of a radio ad that urges Catholics to vote pro-life. The 30-second radio spot encouraging people to "vote pro-life" in the November elections begins running on radio stations around the United States today.

It will continue to air until the November 4 election in the U.S. and the group will take the ads to Canada, where voters there are heading to the polls in mid-October.

The ad features the sound of an unborn baby’s heartbeat at 10 weeks.

The voice of a woman says, "Listening to this makes me wonder – why would anyone question that her life has begun?" It concludes with the words, "Vote your heart. Vote Pro Life."

"The fact that the child whose heartbeat we hear is alive is simply a matter of science," Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson told LifeNews.com in announcing the new ad campaign.

"We believe that it is vital that America’s pro-life community make it clear that they will reserve their votes for candidates of either party who are committed to protecting life from conception to natural death," he added.

The presidential election features a stark contrast between Barack Obama, who favors abortions throughout pregnancy for any reason and funded at taxpayer expense, and John McCain, who opposes abortions.

The radio ad follows newspaper advertisements taking pro-abortion Barack Obama running mate Joe Biden to task for misrepresenting Catholic teaching on abortion and the beginning of human life.

Biden, who is Catholic, has a long pro-abortion voting record and came under fire for some recent statements.

In a recent interview, Biden said he personally believes that human life begins at conception but wouldn’t make public policy protecting unborn children from abortion based on those views.

Several Catholic bishops corrected Biden saying he misrepresented Church teaching.

The ads will run in such leading newspapers as USA Today, the Washington Times, Philadelphia Inquirer and his hometown Delaware News Journal.

The Knights of Columbus ads feature an open letter that remind Biden that "abortion is a grave sin to be avoided at any time during a pregnancy" and he has a "unique responsibility" to make correct statements about Catholic teaching.
