Montgomery, AL (LifeNews.com) — Now that Arizona Senator John McCain has selected pro-life Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, more pro-life groups are hopping on his bandwagon with support for his candidacy. Alabama Citizens for Life is the latest to issue an endorsement for the pair against their pro-abortion rivals.

The pro-life group’s political action committee told LifeNews.com that it is urging all state residents to support McCain and Palin over Barack Obama and Joe Biden.

"Our organization waited to find out if the vice-presidential selection would share John McCain’s pro-life beliefs," ACL PAC director Bill Klein told LifeNews.com.

"McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin demonstrated he is in touch with the faith and family base of American voters, the majority of whom in Alabama believe in the principles of the Declaration of Independence," he said.

Klein said the president needs to be someone who understands that, as Americans mourn the loss of thousands of Americans on the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the nation must also mourn the deaths of millions of unborn children.

Klein said he hopes Republican voters who supported other candidates in the primary — from Mike Huckabee to Ron Paul to Alan Keyes — will name McCain on their presidential ballot.

He hopes they will "join us in working to elect John McCain and Sarah Palin to the highest offices in America, where they will be able to make a difference for the pre-born, the elderly, the infirm, and disabled as well as for all Americans."

Cheryl Ciamarra, who represents Alabama on the board of directors of National Right to Life, says pro-life Americans can be confident with McCain at the helm.

"John McCain has proved himself wise and ready to fight for the heart and soul and conscience of our nation by selecting a strong pro-life advocate for his running mate," she told LifeNews.com.

"He has been willing to address the life issues head on — even highlighting the differences between himself and the pro-abortion candidate," she added. "A man who can be trusted to take a stand to protect the most vulnerable among us, the pre-born, is surely to be trusted with out lives, our families, and our nation."

Alabama Citizens for Life is bringing Norma McCorvey, the former Jane Roe of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision that allowed virtually unlimited abortions, to Montgomery to be the keynote speaker for the group’s September 13th event.

The occasion marks 35 years of Alabama Citizens for Life’s service to the pro-life community in the state with the theme "Proud to be Pro-Life in Alabama!"
