Lansing, MI (LifeNews.com) — The pro-abortion governor of Michigan is helping vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden with preperation for debating his counterpart, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Gov. Jennifer Granholm will play Palin in practice debates with Biden, but her abortion stance is nothing like her fellow governor’s.

The vice-presidential debate is set for October 2.

Biden is a longtime pro-abortion advocate who recently misled viewers of a Sunday talk show by saying he opposes taxpayer-funding of abortions. Biden has supported some efforts to involve public funds in abortions.

Granholm’s pro-abortion position mirrors Biden’s but she’s gone further by repeatedly vetoing bills designed to stop partial-birth abortions.

In June, Granholm vetoed the Michigan legislature’s most recent attempt to prohibit partial-birth abortions, claiming the bill doesn’t have a health exception.

However, doctors and medical groups have repeatedly said the three-day-long abortion procedure is never necessary to protect a woman’s health and, in fact, does more to harm her medically.

In October 2003, Governor Granholm vetoed Senate Bill 395, the "Legal Birth Definition Act," which sought to outlaw partial-birth abortion by granting full legal status to the child as soon as any part of his or her body emerges from the mother.

Granholm also voted a bill in February 2004 that would have strengthened the parental consent law in Michigan.

The bill would prevent abortion businesses from "judge shopping" by filing repeated lawsuits to get a teenager a secret abortion without her parents knowing. Granholm’s veto was so extreme and out of step with Michigan voters that thirty-six Democrats, members of her own party, voted to override it.

Granholm gave the keynote address at a pro-abortion rally at the state capital in April 2006.

There, she said, "We want to be the state where the battle is won for policies that make abortion safe, legal and rare."

However, like Biden, Granholm’s actions prove she is not serious about making abortions either safe or rare.
