Rhode Island Right to Life Backs McCain and Palin Due to Abortion Views

Providence, RI (LifeNews.com) — Because their abortion views are head and shoulders better than their opponents, Rhode Island Right to Life has become the latest statewide pro-life groups to sign on with an endorsement of John McCain and Sarah Palin. The pro-life group is calling on state voters, many of whom are Democrats, to cross party lines.
Barth Bracy is the new recently-named executive director of the group and he tells LifeNews.com about the decision.
While John McCains Congressional voting record over the past 25 years already establishes him as the pro-life choice for president in 2008, is recent choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate puts an exclamation point on his repeated affirmation that he will be a pro-life president, Bracy said.
Lisa Torrado, the chair of the groups political action committee, added more.
What is most compelling about this ticket is that the actions of both John McCain and Sarah Palin prove that they walk their pro-life talk, she said.
Torrado recalls the McCains 1991 adoption of their daughter Bridget from Bangladesh as well as the Palins unwillingness to consider an abortion of their now five-month-old baby boy Trig, who was diagnosed with Down syndrome during the pregnancy.
Dianne Manning, the chair of the Rhode Island Right to Life board of directors, told LifeNews.com she is also elated with the endorsement.
With the Republican Partys recent affirmation of its pro-life platform, the pro-life choice for president has never been clearer, she said.
Rhode Island is one of the most strongly Catholic states in the nation in terms of the percentage of state residents who adhere to the Catholic faith.
The pro-life group hopes its endorsement will appeal to these voters and encourage them to follow the teachings of the church, which say pro-life issues are the most important consideration when selecting a candidate.
Rhode Island Right to Life joins pro-life groups in several other states that have endorsed McCain, including groups in California, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and others.
The pro-life group was founded in 1970 with a mission to advocate for the right to life of unborn children and the elderly and ill patients who are threatened by assisted suicide and euthanasia.
