Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Every election season, pastors and churches confront the question of what election activities are allowed under current federal law. Most churchgoing pro-life advocates wrongly believe there are significant restrictions on their free speech freedoms and one pro-life law firm hopes to dispel that notion.

Liberty Counsel, which frequently defends the rights of pro-life advocates, has produced a new DVD that it is distributing at no cost to churches and church leaders.

With just 60 days until the November presidential elections and pro-life advocates preparing educational activities to highlight the strong differences between the candidates on abortion, this resources could come in handy.

In the DVD, titled "Pastors, Churches and Political Activity,” Mathew Staver, the founder of Liberty Counsel and the dean of Liberty University School of Law, addresses what pastors and church leaders can do regarding voter education, registration, and get-out-the-vote measures.

Staver also addresses the laws regarding supporting or opposing candidates, as well as permissible activity with respect to legislation and voter initiatives, including supporting marriage amendments.

Staver told LifeNews.com the project “reflects the enthused attitude of values voters in this presidential campaign. I have not seen values voters as interested in the issues of any presidential race as I have this one.”

“Liberty Counsel will educate pastors and church leaders concerning how they can address values, educate voters regarding the issues, and register them to vote,” he says.

“We are seeing history unfold before our eyes. Beyond the history that is being made, core moral values are at stake in this election that will affect the future of America.”
