Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — As Barack Obama’s selection of a running mate draws closer, the latest speculation revolves around a Texas congressman whose pro-abortion views mirror Obama’s. Rep. Edwards has a long pro-abortion voting record in favor taxpayer funding of abortion and opposing a partial-birth abortion ban.

According to the National Right to Life Committee, Edwards scored just a 14 percent pro-life voting record during the most recent session of Congress.

In June 2007, Edwards voted to force taxpayers to fund the performance of abortions overseas and pro-abortion groups that lobby to overturn laws in other nations that limit abortions.

Edwards also voted in July 2007 to send millions of dollars to Planned Parenthood, the pro-abortion lobbying group that is also the nation’s largest abortion business.

In previous years, Edwards also compiled poor records from National Right to Life — with a 45 percent voting record in 2005-2006, a 9 percent pro-life voting record from 2003-2004, a 37 percent pro-life record in the 2001-2002 session, a 20 percent record from 1999-2000, and a 20 percent pro-life record from 1997-1998.

Edwards joins Obama in opposing a ban on partial-birth abortions and voted against it repeatedly in years past.

He also voted against the bill that would have protected and provided justice to women and unborn children — like Laci and Conner Peterson — who are victims of violence.

Edwards has voted against a measure that would inform women of the pain an unborn child feels during an abortion. He also voted to fund the UNFPA, the United Nations agency that has been involved in the forced-abortion one-child family planning policy in China.

The Texas congressman also opposed the Child Custody Protection Act, a bill to make sure other states respect the parental involvement laws on abortion of a teenage girl’s home state.

He’s also voted to force taxpayers to fund U.S. military doctors doing abortions on women soldiers.
