Kansas City, KS (LifeNews.com) — In the heartland of America where pro-life values are important for most voters, Sen. John McCain made the most of his chance to address his pro-life convictions against abortion. He told an audience there that he is "proud" to be pro-life and defended his voting record.
Responding to a question on an unrelated topic during a town hall meeting at the historic Union Station, McCain moved to the theme of abortion to press home his point.
I also would like to say one other thing very quickly to youthat is I am proud of my record of protecting and advocating the rights of the unborn," he said to strong applause from the audience. "I believe this is also an important issue."
Life means the rights of the born and the unborn, he said, according to a Wall St. Journal report. You can count on my active advocacy for the rights of the unborn.
The Arizona senator also used the occasion to criticize Barack Obama on a topic that is upsetting to every pro-life voter who learns about it — his votes in the Illinois legislature against an infanticide bill.
Obama repeatedly voted against a measure that would required appropriate medical care for newborns who survive botched abortions or are purposefully born prematurely to be left to die.
He also criticized Obama for opposing the national ban on partial-birth abortions, the Journal indicated.
My friends, thats a hideous procedure. It should never be allowed any place on earth, he said.
McCain said the noblest words ever written were the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" that the founders of the nation set up.
The Journal noted another voter spoke about how she placed her son for adoption and how she wants the right to get him back.
McCain spoke of his strong support for adoption and said it is a good alternative to abortion. He added he would protect the rights of the born and the unborn.
