Jefferson City, MO (LifeNews.com) — A top pro-life group in Missouri has released its primary election endorsements for the state House, Senate, congressional and statewide seats. The group has already announced that it would support both of the Republicans running for governor.

That means Missouri Right to Life is behind both state Treasurer Sarah Steelman and Rep. Kenny Hulshof saying both are pro-life and suitable to replace Gov. Matt Blunt, who is not running again.

Pam Fichter, in a letter to members of the group, said that the endorsements on the legislative level acknowledge the fact that some lawmakers didn’t side with the group on opposing embryonic stem cell research funding and human cloning.

Some backed Amendment 2, that voters supported narrowly in 2006, that allowed the funding and human cloning for research purposes.

"We are profoundly disappointed that some ignored what they themselves had said about the devastating impact that Amendment 2 would have on the legislative process in Missouri," she said.

"MRL worked very hard for the last two years to communicate our position with the legislators and sent more memos and held more meetings than any time in our history on any issue," she added about the work the group has done to educate lawmakers and candidates.

One of the most notable elected officials impacted by his support for the amendment and a subsequent lack of an endorsement is Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder as he seeks re-election.

When it comes to Congressional races, Missouri Right to Life is behind Todd Akin and David Pentland in the 2nd District, John Wayne Tucker in the 3rd, Jeff Parnell in the 4th, Jacob Turk in the 5th, Sam Graves in the 6th, and Blaine Leutkemeyer and Lyndon Bode in the 9th.

Missouri Right to Life is also backing Mitch Hubbard for Secretary of State.
