Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Leading pro-life advocate James Dobson, the head of Focus on the Family, is criticizing Barack Obama over his pro-abortion position. Obama has begun trying to reach out to evangelical voters to disrupt John McCain’s base, but Dobson says Obama is using a phony set of Christian views to do so.

Dobson has a national radio program set to air today that responds to Obama’s views and recent request from his campaign to meet with Dobson.

The Associated Press obtained an advance copy of the program, and it indicated Dobson reserved his harshest criticism for Obama’s position that abortion should be legal without limits and paid for at taxpayer expense.

Dobson said Obama employs the "lowest common denominator of morality" and called it a "fruitcake interpretation of the Constitution."

"This is why we have elections, to support what we believe, to be wise and moral. We don’t have to go to the lowest common denominator of morality which is what he is suggesting," Dobson said.

"Am I required in a democracy to conform my efforts in the political arena to his bloody notion of what is right with regard to the lives of tiny babies?" Dobson said. "What he’s trying to say here is unless everybody agrees, we have no right to fight for what we believe."

Obama recently met with a group of evangelical leaders in Chicago and one came away from the meeting convinced Obama is thoroughly pro-abortion and wrong for America.

Dr. Rick Scarborough, a Southern Baptist minister, said the senator did nothing to reconcile his pro-abortion and Christian views.

"Claiming you’re a Christian isn’t enough" to reassure pro-life voters, Scarborough said in a statement sent to LifeNews.com.

"Here’s a man who doesn’t deviate one iota from the extreme left-wing of his party, when it comes to values issues," Scarborough charged.

Those views are most clearly represented in Obama’s position in favor of unlimited abortions paid for at taxpayer expense.

"He supports partial-birth abortion. As a member of the Illinois State Senate, he had a 100% perfect rating from Planned Parenthood," Scarborough added.

Scarborough, the head of Vision America, said Obama’s credibility as a Christian and his views on abortion would be more solid if he based them on Biblical principles. Instead, Scarborough says Obama arrives at his political positions based on a partisan worldview.

"For Obama, it seems, political correctness on certain social issues, rather that Holy Scripture, is his final authority for faith and practice," he told LifeNews.com.
