Jefferson City, MO (LifeNews.com) — A pro-life Missouri gubernatorial candidate has received the endorsement of a leading pro-life organization that supports pro-life women for elected office. The Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund has endorsed Sarah Steelman, a candidate for the Republican nomination for governor.

Steelman is pro-life on abortion and said at a recent press conference that she supports the use of adult stem cells over embryonic stem cell research that requires the destruction of human life.

"From her pro-life leadership in the State Senate to her Life is Precious Initiative, Sarah Steelman is truly dedicated to representing all Missouri citizens, born and unborn," SBA Fund president Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com.

"Sarah is a passionate advocate for women and unborn children and we are pleased to support her candidacy for Missouri Governor," Dannenfelser added.

Steelman isn’t the only pro-life candidate seeking the GOP nod to likely face pro-abortion Attorney General Jay Nixon in November.

Kenny Hulshof, a pro-life Congressman with a 100 percent pro-life voting record from the National Right to Life Committee is also seeking the nomination.

Like Steelman, Hulshof opposes both abortion and forcing taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research that involves the destruction of human life.

However, the SBA Fund is looking to increase the number of pro-life women in Congress to counter the perception that women are pro-abortion and to oppose the pro-abortion women candidates Emily’s List supports.

"Susan B. Anthony List members are eager to support dedicated pro-life heroines when they need it most," Dannenfelser said. "The consequences of disengagement are dire. The lives of women and their unborn babies are on the line, and the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund is ready to defend them at the ballot box in Missouri and across the country."

As a Missouri state senator, Steelman co-sponsored legislation to ban partial-birth abortion, sponsored the Adoption Awareness Law and sponsored legislation to create the Missouri Choose Life license plate.

Her recently announced Life is Precious Initiative calls for a special session of the Missouri legislature to consider legislation to ban coercive abortion in Missouri. The initiative also calls for bans on sex-selection abortions and the abortions of unborn disabled children.
