St. Paul, MN (LifeNews.com) — A pregnancy center in the capital of Minnesota has moved to a new building just two doors away from the abortion business Planned Parenthood operates in the state. Highland LifeCare Center now resides at 1999 Ford Parkway in St. Paul, the city that will be the site of the 2008 Republican convention.

Highland LifeCare Center is one of 24 LifeCare Centers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin, affiliated with Total LifeCare Centers.

It offers pregnancy-care services and resources to women and families facing unplanned and difficult pregnancies.

Jeanna Desideri of Total LifeCare Centers told LifeNews.com in a statement that the old location made the pregnancy center difficult to find.

"Our basement location and lack of street visibility made Highland LifeCare Center difficult to find," Desideri said. "Our new corner location and increased signage make it much easier to spread our message of hope to the surrounding neighborhood."

"Highland LifeCare Center now is just steps away from Minnesota’s only Planned Parenthood abortion clinic," she said.

That’s important given that the Planned Parenthood abortion center did 3,660 abortions in 2006.

The move, which occurred in January, has already paid dividends.

"Since Highland LifeCare Center moved, at least one of our clients canceled her plans to have an abortion nearby and, instead, chose life for her unborn child," Desideri said.

"Our promise to support her, both during her pregnancy and after her child is born, provided her with great comfort as she made her difficult decision," she added.

The non-profit Highland LifeCare Center has raised more than $250,000 of their $500,000 goal for the purchase and renovation of the building.

Desideri told LifeNews.com the center’s vision is that no woman will ever have an abortion because she lacked the support to carry her baby to term.

"Many women choose abortion because they believe they cannot overcome the financial, social, emotional, or spiritual burdens that may accompany their pregnancy," she explained. "Highland LifeCare Center provides a pathway to overcome those burdens, either through direct support or by referral to other helping programs."

For more than six years, Highland LifeCare Center had been located in the basement of a commercial building at 2075 Ford Parkway.

All of Highland LifeCare Center’s services are free, and the center is open to all families in need.
