Indianapolis, IN (LifeNews.com) — Pro-life advocates in Indiana are upset that the state government is working with Planned Parenthood to finance a speaking engagement for a pro-abortion speaker who plans to trash abstinence education.

The Indiana Department of Health and the Indiana Office of Faith-Based Initiatives are both partnering with Indiana’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, to host a speaker in Indianapolis on June 26.

Mike Fichter, the director of Indiana Right to Life, tells LifeNews.com that the speaker, Michael Carrera, is an outspoken critic of abstinence-only education. Carrera previously told the Wall St. Journal that abstinence programs "lie to kids" and favors an approach that also includes promoting contraception.

"It is inexcusable that the IDOH would provide partnership in hosting a speaker who is a harsh critic of abstinence-only education — the same type of education currently taught in Indiana’s public schools," Fichter said.

"Such actions can only serve to undermine those programs that have effectively presented abstinence before marriage as the expected standard for all Indiana school children," Fichter told LifeNews.com.

"By partnering with Planned Parenthood in hosting Dr. Carrera, it appears that the IDOH is nodding approval for such an agenda," he added.

Fichter is calling on pro-life people in Indiana to contact Governor Mitch Daniels and oppose the speaking engagement. He says the IDOH is answerable to Governor Daniels and he needs to be aware of pro-life concerns immediately.

ACTION: Contact Governor Daniels at 317-232-4567 or send an email by going to https://www.in.gov/gov/2310.htm
