New Haven, CT (LifeNews.com) — Yale University has partnered with a Planned Parenthood affiliate to create a residency training program teaching second-year medical students how to do abortions. School officials appear staisfied with the program and happy that medical students are doing abortions.

Planned Parenthood of Connecticut established a medical residency training program with the Yale School of Medicine to makes sure that students who want to learn how to do abortions can receive proper training.

Medical students have the option of completing two four-week rotations at PPC where they will do abortions on Connecticut women and any who come from other states.

A second Yale University abortion program involves a program affiliated with Griffin Hospital, in Derby, Connecticut where several fourth-year residents participate in a month-long residency program also co-sponsored by PPC.

Yale officials are not only satisfied with the program but elated that Yale students are doing large number of abortions.

Dr. Men-Jean Lee, the program director at Yale University Medical School, told Planned Parenthood, "Yale is very satisfied with the experience and training the residents are receiving at PPC and are especially happy with the number of patients the residents see."

Connecticut is not without enough abortion practitioners as NARAL indicated there were 50 businesses or abortion practitioners located in the East coast state in 2000. And as the number of abortion centers decline across the nation, the number of abortion facilities increased 25 percent from 1996 in the state.

"PPC’s provider training initiative comes at a vital time for reproductive rights because the program does not serve the state of Connecticut alone," Planned Parenthood said of the program on its web site.

"Health care providers trained in abortion and reproductive health in Connecticut may go on to provide services in any of the 50 state," the abortion business said.

Planned Parenthood indicated some of the students trained in abortions could wind up becoming full-time abortion practitioners in the Midwest and Rocky Mountain states where few doctors want to do abortions.

Kat Campbell, a student in the abortion residency program, told Planned Parenthood that it "has been a great opportunity to gain exposure to abortion procedures."

Meanwhile, Medical Students for Choice, a pro-abortion group for budding physicians, teamed up with PPC to create a for-credit course co-taught by PPC’s vice president of public affairs and its director of medical services at the University of Connecticut Medical School.

The course discusses abortion and contraception in public policy.
