London, England (LifeNews.com) — A British doctor is under fire from the General Medical Council for telling his mistress he would perform an illegal abortion on her at his house. After Dr. Richard Akinrolabu got his lover pregnant, he proposed doing an abortion himself to hide the pregnancy.

The GMC, which regulates doctors in England, held a hearing on the case and heard testimony saying that Akinrolabu had gotten his married lover pregnant and, on Valentine’s Day, told her he would abort her baby.

Akinrolabu is a doctor at St. Richard’s Hospital, Chichester in West Sussex and, according to a BBC report, had been having an affair with the woman since December 2004.

During the hearing, Akinrolabu admitted having an affair with the woman but denied proposing an illegal abortion.

The doctor also denied sexually assaulting the unnamed woman and having sexual relations with her without her consent.

The BBC reported the woman became distressed when she found out in February she was pregnant and she was convinced Akinrolabu was the father because they had been having sex without using any contraception.

The GNC heard testimony that the woman went to Akinrolabu’s apartment expecting him to take her to a local abortion business but he offered to perform the abortion himself there in his home.

"I got cross and told him he was unethical and it was illegal in our country to carry out such things," the woman told the panel.

The BBC reports the hearings are ongoing.
