Women Who Regret Their Abortions to Speak at Supreme Court

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) — Continuing to profile women who have had abortions and regret their decisions, the Silent No More Awareness Campaign will again feature such women at a gathering at the Supreme Court in conjunction with the 32nd anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision.
The campaign is an effort to help women who believe they made an error in having an abortion to speak out about their decisions.
Many in the pro-life movement credit the campaign and others like it for helping to reduce the number of abortions and ensuring that women make better choices when they find themselves pregnant.
Actress, model and author Jennifer O’Neil, the spokeswoman for the campaign, will speak at the event.
O’Neil, a longtime Cover Girl model who starred in the hit movie "Summer of ’42," was coerced into having an abortion as a young woman.
"Sharing how my faith and the knowledge of God’s truth brought me forgiveness, healing and closure after years of pain and regret is an awesome privilege," O’Neil said.
"To have the opportunity to encourage and comfort the hearts of women who have suffered is humbling, and making the whole truth known about abortion is absolutely necessary."
Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will also be there.
King notes that abortion has disproportionately affected the black community. While black women constitute about 13% of the childbearing population, they have over one-third of the abortions.
"I join the voices of thousands across America who can no longer sit idly by and allow this horrible spirit of murder to cut down," King says. "If the Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is to live, our babies must live."
King recalls memories of her childhood home in Birmingham, Alabama. It was later bombed by those who hated the civil rights activism of her family.
King says that just as she and her family should have been comfortable and safe in their own home, so should an unborn child feel safe inside of her mother during pregnancy.
Other women who participate in the January 24th event will join King and O’Neill at the Supreme Court. They will hold signs that say "I Regret My Abortion," and will be speaking about their abortion experience.
Similar events will be held in state capitals across the country later this month.
The Silent No More Awareness Campaign is a joint project between Priests for Life and the National Organization of Episcopalians for Life.
