Topeka,
KS (LifeNews.com) -- Two pro-life organizations issued endorsements
of Rep. Todd Tiahrt, a pro-life Congressman who is seeking the Senate
seat of retiring Sen. Sam Brownback. Tiahrt will compete against pro-life
Rep. Jerry Moran for the GOP primary and could face former House member
Nancy Boyda in the general election.
The Kansans for Life political action committee endorsed Tiahrt saying he has a 100 percent pro-life voting record both in Congress and when he served in the state legislature.
"Equally important to Rep. Tiahrts voting record is his depth of knowledge, experience and proven leadership on these and related issues," the group said in a statement sent to LifeNews.com. "The KFL Federal PAC believes it is especially important for the next U.S. Senator from Kansas to possess these qualities given the current administration's determination to remove any and all federal and state regulation of abortion."
"Tiahrt understands the issues of embryonic stem cell research and cloning," the Kansas pro-life group added.
"He believes destructive embryonic experimentation is not only immoral, it is unnecessary given the continued success of adult stem cell therapies, and new discoveries which allow simple human skin cells to be manipulated through an ethical process into mimicking the regenerative properties of embryonic cells," it said.
Tiahrt is the author and sponsor of the 1999 Tiahrt Amendment to the Global Health and Child Survival Act, now in it's tenth year, which protects women and unborn children from exploitation, and in so doing, protects the integrity of American tax dollars.
The Tiahrt Amendments purpose is to reduce reliance on abortion in developing nations by insuring that tax-funded international family planning projects and sterilizations meet several conditions.
"His effort to pass and keep the Tiahrt Amendment in place these ten years exemplifies Rep. Tiahrts reputation for fighting for what he believes in, and in standing by his principles," KFL said./
Meanwhile, the Family Research Council Action political action committee also came out on Thursday with an endorsement for Tiahrt.
"Congressman Tiahrt has been a true friend of the family in Congress and will continue to do so when elected to the Senate," Tony Perkins, president of the group, told LifeNews.com.
"We need Senators who will fight to defend the family against the radical leadership in the Senate. We are confident in Congressman Tiahrt's ability to do that," Perkins added.
"Todd has been a leader in the fight to protect the unborn. He has lead in the fight to keep taxpayer dollars from funding abortion," Perkins continued. "FRC Action PAC believes that Congressman Todd Tiahrt will be a true advocate for the issues that best uphold and strengthen families. We are proud to support his candidacy."
