Lathrup Village, MI (LifeNews.com) -- An abortion practitioner in Michigan and his chain of abortion businesses were given probation on Wednesday in a case involving the illegal dumping of patient records. Last year, members of a local pro-life group found biohazard waste and medical records at the Womancare abortion business.

Monica Miller of the Citizens for a Pro-Life Society found the patient records, medical waste and bodies of unborn children in the dumpster.

The incident caused a national controversy when Womancare received only a slap on the wrist from Michigan environmental officials for violating illegal dumping laws.

Though Albert Hodari, who runs the abortion center and four others, didn't receive a fine from the state, ocal officials continued to investigate the matter.

On Wednesday, in a hearing before Judge Richards of the 46th District Court in Southfield, Womancare received a six month probationary period.

Hodari pled no contest to twelve counts from the Oakland County prosecutor's office of violating Michigan law requiring the proper filing and disposal of patient record, even though records were found concerning hundreds of abortion patients.

The probationary period effectively delays a formal sentence of Hodari and the Womancare corporation and Hodari is required to appear back in court at the end of the six months probation.

At that time, if there are no further violations of the patient records law there will be no further penalty in the case. If local officials find further violations, Hodari is subject to a possible 90 day jail term and a $100 dollar fine for each of the twelve counts.

Miller told LifeNews.com after the hearing that she is disappointed Hodari continues to receive little in the way of punishment for his actions.

"This court decision is disappointing. Hodari violated the rights of literally hundreds of his patients in total disregard for proper medical practice," she said. "This is just another slap on the hand in a sad and sorry case that has involved the improper disposal of bio-hazard waste and even the dumping of the remains of aborted babies in the trash."

"The law should have come down hard on Hodari -- but instead he will likely just walk away from this whole debacle," Miller added.

"It is a travesty of justice. The people of Michigan have not been served -- much less the women he violated and the aborted babies he threw away in the trash," she concluded.

After the incident at Womancare, Miller's group found more biohazard waste and patient records at the Women's Advisory abortion business in Livonia. Miller told LifeNews.com her organization found the remains of six aborted babies 16 to 20 weeks gestational age.
