St. Paul, MN (LifeNews.com) -- Abortion advocates have introduced a FOCA-type bill in the Minnesota state legislature that would aggressively promote abortion and overturn the current pro-life laws in place that have helped drive down the number of abortions. The bill is SF 115, the so-called Reproductive Privacy Act.

Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life tells LifeNews.com it is calling on legislators and pro-life advocates across the state to oppose the bill because it would wipe out all protections currently on the books.

“The Reproductive Privacy Act is a giant step backward in the effort to protect unborn children and their mothers from an aggressive, predatory and profit-driven abortion industry,” MCCL director Scott Fischbach said. “Removing all limits on a deadly industry in decline is a stimulus package that Minnesotans don't want.”

Sen. Scott Dibble, a DFL lawmaker from Minneapolis, is behind the bill -- which seeks to eliminate all state and local laws that regulate the abortion industry and provide some protection for unborn children and their mothers.

MCCL says it would kill Minnesota’s parental notification law, which allows parents to know when their minor daughter is considering an abortion.

The bill also would nullify Woman’s Right to Know, the informed consent law that guarantees women receive factual information about abortion risks, complications and alternatives and provides fetal development facts and other crucial information
to women considering abortion.

That law has been responsible for helping hundreds of women change their minds about abortion.

MMCL says the Reproductive Privacy Act is the Minnesota version of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), the federal legislation intended to make unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy a national law and to overturn hundreds of pro-life laws in every state nationwide.

FOCA is the bill incoming president Barack Obama said he would make the first legislation he would sign into law.

“Minnesotans agree that abortion is not good for women or children,” Fischbach said. “The Reproductive Privacy Act would expand abortion and dramatically increase the pain and suffering of vulnerable women. MCCL calls upon state legislators to actively oppose this heartless, deadly measure.”
