Corpus Christi, Texas City Council Revokes Planned Parenthood Funding

Corpus Christi, TX (LifeNews.com) -- Planned Parenthood continues to lose taxpayer funding across the country and the latest governmental agency to revoke it is the Corpus Christi city council in Texas. Members of the council pulled $30,000 in funding for the abortion business from the city's $500,000 youth development budget.

The budget disperses state and federal taxpayer funds in conjunction with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

While the council approved funding for a host of other groups serving young people in the coastal city, they voted to delete the Planned Parenthood funding. Before the vote, it had been in place for the last four years.

The Corpus Christi Caller newspaper indicated 20 people, including Kristie Rutledge, attended the council meeting and spoke against including the abortion business in the city budget

Rutledge said she didn't think it was appropriate for public funds to go to a group that is promoting birth control and contraception to children.

"We don't want our children ages 10 and up to be targeted with this information," she said. "This is pornography."

The cut in funds in Texas comes after Planned Parenthood of Georgia lost a massive grant from the state. As the state government cuts spending as a result of the economy, the state abortion business received news a contract was not renewed.

PPGA has contracted with the state for decades to fund the promotion of contraception and birth control through the state's family planning program.

Now, the abortion business will have to make do with less money after officials in Fulton County canceled a $420,000 contract.

ACTION: There is no record of which members voted against the funding, but use the following web site to send members of the council a note thanking them for deleting the Planned Parenthood funding:
