Atlanta, GA (LifeNews.com) -- There is a silver lining in the troubled economic times for pro-life advocates in Georgia as Planned Parenthood of Georgia (PPGA) has lost a massive grant from the state. As the state government cuts spending as a result of the economy, the state abortion business received news a contract was not renewed.

PPGA has contracted with the state for decades to fund the promotion of contraception and birth control through the state's family planning program.

Now, the abortion business will have to make do with less money after officials in Fulton County canceled a $420,000 contract.

The Atlanta Progressive News says PPGA has already have to lay off staff at its five facilities and it has increased the purchase price of birth control for its customers as a result of the cut in public funding.

"Our contract was terminated as of September 30. It's left a terrible hole in our budget. It's a contract we've had in one form or another for 35 years," Kay Scott, the president of the abortion business, told APN.

The funds went to PPGA from the Temporary Aid for Needy Families (TANF) program, which pro-life Gov. Sonny Perdue cut 34 percent because of economic considerations.

Because of the budget cuts, PPGA will be forced to seek more money from abortion advocates to fund its programs.

In the meantime, Planned Parenthood indicated it would be meeting with state legislators to determine how to get more funding than the current budget numbers allow.

Georgia is one of the states where the passage of numerous pro-life laws have helped produce a decline in the number of abortions.

Though Georgia's population has increased 42 percent, the number of abortions has dropped 18 percent.
