Concord,
NH (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life group in New Hampshire
is squarely in Senator John McCain's corner and has issued an endorsement
for his presidential bid. New Hampshire Citizens for Life joins pro-life
groups in states from California and Wisconsin to Pennsylvania and
Wyoming in backing McCain.
Citizens for Life director Roger Stenson tells LifeNews.com that the group's political action committee strongly supports McCain over pro-abortion rival Barack Obama.
He calls McCain a "strong pro-life candidate" who has engaged in "proven action demonstrating [his] conviction on behalf of unborn babies."
Stenson also said McCain is "a man of dignity, character, and courage" and pointed out he has "a 100 percent pro-life voting record on abortion."
The pro-life group backed McCain in part because of the battle over the Supreme Court and the knowledge that the next president will likely determine the fate of abortion for another 35 years.
"Senator McCain has also clearly stated he would appoint to the federal bench, including the Supreme Court, men and women who exhibit understanding and respect for the Constitution, such as Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Scalia," Stenson said. "The next President will very likely have a huge effect on the composition of the Supreme Court."
New Hampshire Citizens for Life is also backing Senator John Sununu for re-election to the U.S. Senate and former Health and Human Services Commissioner John Stephen for the U.S. House of Representatives from the 1st Congressional District.
Stenson told LifeNews.com, "No senator can be counted on more than John Sununu to support the right of all innocent human beings to stay alive."
He pointed to Sununu's "perfect" voting record and said his group endorsed John Sununu "with the highest enthusiasm," recognizing him as a man of "compassion that extends very far and thoroughly into all the communities in New Hampshire - and the entire nation."
John Stephen is the former Commissioner of the State Department of Health and Human Services. During his time, Stenson says he strongly advocated a pro-life position.
