Eliot Spitzer Canceled Meeting With Pro-Abortion Group to Respond to Scandal

Albany, NY (LifeNews.com) -- New York Governor Eliot Spitzer made national news yesterday over a scandal that has him allegedly having sexual relations with a prostitute. Pro-life advocates responding to the news said they found it ironic that the governor had to cancel a meeting with a pro-abortion group to respond to the charges.

Spitzer is a well-know pro-abortion activist who is behind a bill in the New York legislature that would repeal any pro-life limits on abortion and make legal abortions the law of the state.

He has specifically claimed to be pro-woman yet gone after crisis pregnancy centers that present women with the kind of pregnancy help and factual information they don't normally receive at an abortion center.

That Spitzer had to cancel a meeting with a pro-abortion New York group to discuss the scandal with the media was not lost on pro-life advocates.

Syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin pointed out that Spitzer had been scheduled to speak to the Family Planning Advocates’ 31st Annual Conference.

"The abortion racketeers are seeking more money. And he was preparing to push legislators to do their bidding–before he was forced to cancel his appearance," she wrote.

Jill Stanek, a leading pro-life nurse, noticed the irony as well.

"Spitzer was scheduled to meet with Family Planning Advocates of New York State to promote this heinous legislation," she wrote on her blog. "But alas, prevailing prostitution problems forced Spitzer to cancel."

"We can only now hope Spitzer's bill peters out like he did, indeed a fitting day for that," she added. "If Spitzer falls, the NY abortion cartel will also take a tumble."

Samantha, who writes at the Uncle Sam’s Cabin blog, added, "I find it ironic that Spitzer had to cancel his morning meeting with an abortion rights group that was advocating for a particularly repugnant abortion rights law because of the prostitution scandal."
