Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- New polling data in key presidential battleground states shows a potential problem for the pro-life movement should Barack Obama win the Democratic nomination. Current polling data shows Obama faring better among pro-life voters than Hillary Clinton, though both strongly support abortion.

In addition to the surge Obama has experienced lately, he’s a relatively unknown candidate when it comes to his specific stance on the issues.

While Clinton is a known commodity and her pro-abortion position is well-established, most voters may not know that Obama wants all abortions to remain legal and will appoint judges who will keep abortions legal another 35 years.

Recent polls in three key states show Obama does better with pro-life voters.

Looking at Wisconsin, a Survey USA poll released on Monday finds likely Republican nominee John McCain leads Clinton 49 to 42 percent but trails Obama 52 to 42 percent.

In the Clinton matchup, McCain gets 65 percent of the pro-life vote while 27 percent of pro-life advocates support Clinton and 8 percent are undecided. Pro-abortion voters back Clinton by a 55 to 36 percent margin with 9 percent undecided.

In a potential contest against Obama, 60 percent of pro-life voters go with McCain while 32 percent back Obama and 8 percent are undecided. Pro-abortion voters side with Obama on a 67 to 29 percent margin with 4 percent undecided.

The change from a 38 percent advantage among pro-life voters versus Clinton compared with a 28 percent advantage against Obama likely means pro-life groups need to do more to educate voters that Obama takes as strong a pro-abortion position as Clinton.

The same disparity appears in Virginia and Iowa.

McCain leads Clinton in Virginia 48 to 45 and has a 64 to 30 percent lead among pro-life voters while losing 59 to 36 percent among pro-abortion voters.

However, Obama leads McCain 51 percent to 45 percent and McCain’s 34 percent advantage among pro-life voters against Clinton drops to a 25 percent advantage (61 to 36 percent) against Obama. His lead among pro-abortion voters against McCain is 63 to 33 percent.

This disparity is also seen in Iowa where McCain leads Clinton 52 to 41 percent while Obama is ahead of McCain 51 to 41 percent.

While pro-life voters back McCain over Clinton 64 to 28, that percentage falls to 54 to 37 percent when McCain is pitted against Obama.
