Baton
Rouge, LA (LifeNews.com) -- Another exit poll from another primary
state confirms that Republicans nationwide are strongly opposed to
legalized abortion. In this case, exits polls conducted with 681 Louisiana
Republican voters leaving polling places after Saturday's primary
election finds they oppose abortion by more than a three to one margin.
The exit poll found 75 percent of GOP voters say abortion should be illegal while just 22 percent say they back legalized abortion.
Asked to detail their abortion views further, a whopping 38 percent say all abortions should be illegal while another 37 percent said abortions should be mostly illegal.
Another 15 percent of Louisiana Republicans say abortions should be mostly legal while a paltry 7 percent said all abortions should be legalized.
Looking at the breakdown of how pro-life and pro-abortion Republicans voted on Saturday, pro-life voters favored Gov. Mike Huckabee on a 49 to 37 percentage point margin over Sen. John McCain. Pro-abortion voters went with McCain 60 to 24 percent over Huckabee.
Another 10 percent of pro-life Republicans sided with Ron Paul or Mitt Romney, who has exited the race, and 14 percent of pro-abortion Republicans favored Paul or Romney.
Huckabee won with both groups of pro-life voters and had a 56 to 35 percent lead over McCain with those who said all abortions should be illegal and a 42 to 40 percent lead among those who want most abortions illegal.
The
Louisiana primary exit polling data places the state's Republicans
in league with the overwhelming majority who have voted in the presidential
primaries to this point and opposed most or all abortions.
