Lansing,
MI (LifeNews.com) -- A second recent presidential poll conducted
in Michigan shows John McCain leading and getting a bit of a bounce
from his victory in the New Hampshire primary. It follows on the heels
of a poll done just before the New Hampshire vote showing Mike Huckabee
in the lead and McCain in third place.
The newer poll, released Thursday and conducted by the Republican Strategic Vision polling firm, finds Mitt Romney in second and Mike Huckabee in third among GOP voters there.
McCain has the backing of 29 percent according to the survey, Romney 20 percent, and Huckabee 18 percent.
Rudy
Giuliani comes in fourth with 13 percent, and Fred Thompson and Ron
Paul tie with five percent each.
Showing the race is in flux, just 29 percent said their choice is
definite and that there is no possibility they may change their vote
before next Tuesday's showdown.
Michigan Republicans head to the polls for their primary on January 15 after Iowa voters handed Mike Huckabee a victory in its caucus and New Hampshire sided with McCain. In an unheralded caucus, Wyoming power brokers backed Romney.
The first poll that came out this week about Michigan -- and one of just two now that have been done since the middle of December -- showed Huckabee winning.
That poll, conducted by the Democratic polling firm Rossman Group, had Huckabee at 23 percent, Romney at 22, McCain with 18, Giuliani at 8, and Thompson and Paul in low single digits.
John
McCain won the Michigan primary in 2000 and is given a good shot of
winning again. However, Mitt Romney's father George is a former statewide
lawmaker and his name is well-known there. Huckabee is likely going
to fare well among the state's large contingent of pro-life voters.
