Lansing,
MI (LifeNews.com) -- A Michigan pro-life organization has issued
an endorsement for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to receive the
Republican nomination for president. The endorsement is an important
nod for Huckabee in a state that has the four presidential battleground
in this year's primary process.
The endorsement comes from Michigan Chooses Life PAC, the political arm of a statewide pro-life organization formed last year to promote a pro-life amendment to Michigan's state constitution.
The group told LifeNews.com Wednesday that the group supports Huckabee because of his stance in favor of a Human Life Amendment to the federal Constitution.
Dr. Roy McLaughlin, the co-chairman of the pro-life group's board of directors, said, the endorsement "was based on Gov. Huckabee's consistent, life-long record of working to protect the Right to Life with which all prenatal child have been endowed by our Creator."
Huckabee is one of several Republican presidential candidates campaigning on a pro-life platform against former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, the only abortion advocate in the race.
Huckabee, in response to an appeal from the group for his support of the Michigan constitutional amendment, Monday responded in an e-mail, writing, "That's an easy yes."
Huckabee
has earned the support of Georgia Right to Life as well while Former
Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson enjoys the backing of National Right
to Life and statewide pro-life groups in West Virginia, Wisconsin,
Wyoming, New York and elsewhere.
