With so many plates sold, Arkansas Right to Life has raised thousands of dollars and the group's director, Rose Mimms, recently present a donation to Catholic Adoption Services from the proceeds the plates have generated.

Mimms presented CAS adoption director Antje Harris, with a mock check totaling $7,289 $7,289 two weeks ago, according to a report in the Arkansas Catholic newspaper.

The adoption agency is one of 12 groups that applied for funds from the Choose Life plate program, and the group can use 60 percent of the funds to provide for the needs of the mother. That includes housing, medical care and educational training.

The adoption center isn't the only group benefiting from the plates as about 8,000 have been sold or renewed since the legislature approved them in 2003 and they have raised $200,000 for adoption and pregnancy center groups.

Governor Mike Huckabee, signed the Choose Life plate measure into law on March 4, 2003. The plates cost an additional $35.00 each time residents renew or purchase a vehicle license.

This fee consists of a $10.00 handling charge paid to the Department of Finance & Administration and the remaining $25.00 goes to special Adoption Assistance Fund that helps women choose adoption over abortion.
