Denver, Colorado the Next Battleground Over New Abortion Business

Denver, CO (LifeNews.com) -- Denver, Colorado may become the next battleground over the building of a new abortion facility in secret. Pro-life advocates in this mountain city are upset that Planned Parenthood is placing a new abortion business in the heart of an African-American community and that it's beginnings are shrouded in secrecy.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains plans to break ground on the new abortion center in November.

Located at 38th Avenue and Pontiac, the new facility will house the pro-abortion group's headquarters and an abortion facility in the same 50,000-square foot space.

Leslie Durgin, a Planned Parenthood senior vice president, admitted to the Denver Post that she hoped the abortion center could be built secretly -- just as one has been constructed in Aurora, Illinois that has upset pro-life advocates there.

Planned Parenthood purchased the property, located down the street from Martin Luther King park, under a different name to keep the purchase secret. Now that construction is set to begin, the abortion business is changing tactics.

"We changed that several months ago. We just decided that wasn't right for us," Durgin said. "We anticipate we will have protests."

Pro-life advocates confirmed to the newspaper that they will be present at the new abortion business and that they may try to persuade contractors and construction workers to boycott participating in the building process.

Durgin said Planned Parenthood would provide enough security to make sure construction continued.

"We don't expect to have a police presence on a daily basis unless we need it, in which case we'll call for it, and I have been assured we will get it," Durgin said.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains does about 8,800 abortions annually on women from Colorado and four surrounding states.
