Illinois Planned Parenthood Will Open New Aurora Abortion Center

Aurora, IL (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life advocates in the Chicago area are upset that Planned Parenthood is looking at opening a new abortion center in Aurora. The new facility on the city's far east side will do abortions and it replaces a facility that did them that closed a year ago.

Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area will open a 22,000-square-foot office in the 200 block of North Oakhurst Drive, located in the DuPage County section of Aurora.

Steve Trombley, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood/Chicago Area, told the Suburban Chicao News that the center will do abortions. It will also offer legitimate reproductive health services that Planned Parenthood uses to draw in potential abortion customers and distract communities from its abortion business.

"We've seen a tremendous need in the community," Trombley told the SCN news outlet. "Aurora is one of the fastest-growing communities in the United States, and that's why we're locating here."

He used the non-abortion services as a public relations strategy in the interview with the newspaper, saying "90 percent of medical services are for preventative gynecological services. Only 10 percent of what we do relates to abortion services."

Alderman Chris Beykirch, whose 8th Ward is near the location of the abortion facility, told SCN that citizens are already complaining.

The city council's Planning and Development Committee approved the plan for the building last November and the abortion center did not require a vote on the full city council to move forward.

Though Planned Parenthood claims it promotes general health care for women, it is the nation's largest abortion business and generated $902.8 million in incoming in fiscal year 2005-2006 -- an increase of 2.4 percent over the previous reporting period.

According to the records, Planned Parenthood did 264,943 abortions in 2005 alone, up 3.9 percent from 2004. Estimates show that about $112.6 million, or 32.5 percent of the income its facilities nationwide generate, comes from doing abortions.

Douglas Scott, president of Life Decisions International, a Planned Parenthood watchdog group, points out that the abortion business referred only 1,414 pregnant women to adoption agencies in 2004, down more than 20 percent from 2003.

Yet in the 2005-2006 fiscal year, Planned Parenthood reported no referrals to adoption agencies.
