Kentucky Choose Life License Plates Available in a Few Months

Frankfort, KY (LifeNews.com) -- Kentucky motorists will be able to purchase Choose Life license plates in a few months, according to state officials. The announcement follows on the heels of a federal appeals court decision saying Tennessee's plates are constitutional, even though a pro-abortion license plate has not been approved.

The Kentucky legislature last year approved a measure allowing nonprofit groups to ask the Transportation Cabinet to design a specialty plate.

The Family Foundation of Kentucky responded by signing up 1,100 people who wanted a Choose Life plate, which the group's director, Kent Ostrander, called "an obvious opportunity for people to encourage others to choose life."

Linda Jedlicki of Louisville told the Courier-Journal newspaper she plans to purchase one when she renews her plates this fall.

"I just think it's the best message you could have driving around town," said Jedlicki told the newspaper. "If just one person stops and thinks, 'Choose Life,' it's worth any amount of money or time."

Proceeds from the plate benefit 35 crisis pregnancy centers across the state and they are in production now.

Abortion advocates told the Louisville newspaper that they will pursue their own version of the plate.

"We'll definitely be looking at doing something," Amanda Kreps-Long, an ACLU attorney, said.

Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Montana, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota current have Choose Life plates available. Only Montana and Hawaii have pro-abortion license plates.
