Dr. James Dobson Calls Barack Obama’s Christian Radio Ad Misleading
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) --
Barack Obama’s campaign is running an advertisement on Christian radio stations that leading pro-life advocate Dr. James Dobson says is misleading. He made the comments in a radio broadcast last week and also spent time criticizing Obama on abortion. According to a CBN News report, the Obama ad claimed certain people were trying to grab headlines and throw stones at Obama's faith and it was aimed at Dobson, who has said Obama is misrepresenting his Christian faith by backing unlimited abortions. In the broadcast, Dobson responded, "We are not throwing stones at Senator Obama for his faith. That's off the wall. We are responding to his comments about the Bible and about us and about the Constitution. We don't want to leave it on the record that we are throwing stones at Senator Obama to grab the headlines." CBN News Senior National Correspondent David Brody responded to the dust-up saying, “Obama's concerted effort to reach out to conservative Evangelicals has many in the conservative Evangelical community very concerned.” Brody added: “First off, Evangelicals like Dr. Dobson and the millions of people who have similar beliefs think Obama's public service record simply does not match up with their view of biblical absolutes. That leads me to the second concern. There is frustration in conservative Evangelical circles that the traditional bedrock biblical issues of abortion and marriage are starting to play second fiddle to new issues like climate change, genocide, poverty, etc.”

Abortion Advocates Respond to Barack Obama’s Comments on Mental Health
Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Lost in the shuffle of the recent debate concerning presidential candidate Barack Obama’s comments on abortions and mental health was a mixed response from abortion advocates. Some tried to gloss over Obama’s statement that mental health exceptions are not valid while others dismissed criticism that Obama was trying to moderate his image on abortion. Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization for Women blasted Obama saying that he’s buying into the argument some pro-life people make that women have abortions for frivolous reasons. “That kind of statement really feeds into the wingnut argument that women have abortions because they are frivolous about that decision, because we are having a bad hair day,” Gandy said. “There seems to be an information gap there.” Eleanor Smeal, president of the Feminist Majority Foundation, said she worried that Obama’s comments would confuse pro-abortion voters who support him. Obama has an “excellent” voting record on abortion rights, Smeal told Politico so “his statements lend some confusion where there shouldn't be any.” Meanwhile Kate Michelman, the former director of NARAL, tried to explain Obama’s comments. “He was very deliberately speaking to those people who over the past 35 years have made the case that the exception to protect women’s health is a big loophole through which women can leap when they are feeling blue,” said Michelman. “Obama was making it clear that he doesn't believe that is what women do and what the law allows.”

Planned Parenthood Closes Facility in Huntsville, Alabama Citing Lack of Funds
Huntsville, AL (LifeNews.com) --
Planned Parenthood has closed a facility in Huntsville, Alabama even though, nationally, it brought in over $1 billion in revenues by doing the most abortions in the United States. Felicia Brown-Williams with Planned Parenthood of Alabama says the abortion business considered every possible avenue before closing its doors. "It's regrettable that we're having close it. We've exhausted all possible avenues before we made that decision," Williams said. She said that the center is closing because it is not getting enough in government funds, despite the fact that Planned Parenthood, nationwide, receives hundreds of millions from the federal government. "There's just not enough public funding out there for non-profits such as ourselves who provide the services that are really needed in our communities," she claimed. Planned Parenthood says notices were sent in the mail to patients about the closing. Including information on where to continue getting birth control and other services.

Spain Govt Wants Women's Abortion Records Anonymous After Investigation
Madrid, Spain (LifeNews.com) --
The government of Spain wants women’s abortion records to remain anonymous following an investigation into a chain of abortion centers that were doing illegal late-term abortions. During the investigation authorities learned the names of women who had the disputed abortions and question them to learn more information about the way abortion practitioner Carlos Morin may have violated the nation’s abortion laws. But Deputy Prime Minister Maria Teresa de la Vega said Friday that she doesn't want that to happen again. "This is an initiative that has been demanded by women for a long time," she told reporters after a weekly cabinet meeting where the step was approved. Information about a woman who undergoes an abortion will be linked to a confidential number instead of to her name, which could only be revealed under a court order, the government said in a statement. Most abortions are legal in Spain, but they are only allowed in the latter stages of pregnancy for supposedly legitimate medical or mental health reasons. In the Morin cases, a psychologist fabricated the paperwork involving late-term abortions to make them appear to conform with Spanish law. Authorities found patient intake forms that were partially completed. Spanish authorities started the raids in Barcelona after a pro-life group called E-Christians filed a complaint following a television report by a Denmark station featuring an undercover investigation showing Carlos Morin, who runs the four abortion businesses, offering an abortion to a reporter who was seven-months pregnant at the time. Morin gave the journalist a form she could use to falsely claim she had a mental disorder that allowed her to have the late-term abortion. He also said he would inject a poison that would kill the baby and the woman would give birth to a stillborn child.
