Ron Paul Grilled on Abortion by "The View" Television Show Hosts
Hollywood, CA (LifeNews.com) --
Republican Rep. Ron Paul recently became the first 2008 Republican presidential candidate to make an appearance on The View. Much of his seven minute appearance on the show had to do with the topic of abortion as the pro-abortion hosts of the program gave him grief for his pro-life position. Whoopi Goldberg, a Planned Parenthood advisory board member, went after Paul saying that "nobody makes this decision lightly." Yet, as Newsbusters blogger Justin McCarthy observed, co-host Joy Behar occupied most of the segment attacking Paul’s abortion position. "Though Behar admitted she believes killing a child immediately before birth is 'murder,' she asked 'what about the first month?'" Ron Paul then asked Behar if she would be okay with a law "that says abortion should be done no later than at six weeks gestation." Behar avoided the question claiming she is "not happy with abortion, period." At the end of the segment, wealthy actress Kate Walsh asserts that if Roe is overturned only wealthy women in states that disallow abortions will be able to travel to obtain them. That's a small price to pay, counters Paul, for the reduction in partial-birth abortions, but Walsh doesn't respond.

South Korea Lawmakers May Possible Legalize Abortion
Seoul, South Korea (LifeNews.com) --
The Ministry of Health and Welfare in South Korea says it may move to legalize abortions given that more than 340,000 reported cases of illegal abortions occur every year. The government there thinks legalizing abortion will reduce the number of cases. Starting from holding public hearings in January, the government plans to change its Mother and Child Health Law, which bans mothers from aborting their children under ordinary circumstances. The current law allows abortion only to those who have genetic, physical or mental disease, have been raped, or are pregnant through incest, or where a mother is at serious risk. Those who violate the law are subject to up to one year in prison and fines. Abortion practitioners are also subject to up to two years in jail. However, in 2005, there were reportedly 342,233 cases of abortion while the number of births stood at 476,000. Among the number of abortions, 11,700 were teenagers.

New Poll Claims British Residents Strongly Favor Legalized Abortion
London, England (LifeNews.com) --
A new poll in England makes it appear that a strong majority of English residents favor legalized abortion. According to the YouGov survey, 63 percent of respondents think it should be legal for a woman to have an abortion if she wants it. Abortion has been legal in Britain since 1967. The time limit for legal abortions is currently set at 24 weeks, or roughly six months into a pregnancy. British women do not have to pay for an abortion if they qualify under the terms of the National Health Service. The poll asked: "To what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement? - It should be legal for a woman to have an abortion when she has an unwanted pregnancy." Sixty-three percent agreed, 14 percent disagreed, 16 percent said they neither agreed or disagreed and three percent would not give an opinion.

Nigeria Under Pressure to Legalize Abortion, Catholic Bishop Explains
Umuahia, Nigeria (LifeNews.com) --
Rt. Rev. Lucius Ugorji, a leading Catholic Bishop in Nigeria says the African nation has come under intense international pressure to legalize abortion and has called for stiff resistance to such moves. He said the pressure follow approval of the Maputo Plan of Action that was adopted in South Africa. According to him, the Maputo Plan of Action was one of the attempts to legalize abortion on demand on the African soil which would pave way for western aid. He accused the wealthy nations of the West of promoting the use of contraceptives and legalization of abortion and using it as political tool to manipulate poorer nations, adding that sometimes these are made conditions for foreign aids to induce and compel poorer countries to legalize abortion. He said for the church, abortion remains a sin, arguing that an unborn child has an inalienable right to life.
