New York, NY (LifeNews.com) -- Over the weekend, thousands of
abortion activists joined with protesters on other issues who have set
up shop nearby the Republican convention that begins this week.
In a demonstration organized by Planned Parenthood, thousands of abortion advocates marched across the Brooklyn Bridge on Saturday.
"I'm affected personally, in terms of birth control. I demand and cherish that right," Sara Breman, a 22-year-old Austin, Texas, student told the Associated Press.
"Under Bush, that right is being threatened through sex education that teaches only abstinence," Breman said before biking across the bridge.
Meanwhile, Adrienne Luzeroff, 28, held a sign saying "Real Sex Ed Saves Lives."
"The current administration needs to stop putting money into unproven abstinence-only education and support real medically accurate sex education for young people," she told Reuters.
According to an AP report, some of the marchers chanted: "What does democracy look like?" While others responded, "This is what democracy looks like."
After marching across the bridge, the pro-abortion protesters gathered at city hall to listen to a message from Planned Parenthood president Gloria Feldt and pro-abortion actress Kathleen Turner.
Marchers also chanted other long-time slogans like "My body, my choice" and "Not the church, not the state, women should decide their fate," and held signs such as "Abort Bush."
