John Kerry's Sister Promotes Abortion at Democratic Convention

Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Although John Kerry isn't expected to spend much time on the subject of abortion in his speech tonight accepting the Democratic nomination for president, his sister Peggy is going out of her way to sell Kerry's pro-abortion credentials to party activists.

On Monday, Peggy Kerry told a rally of pro-abortion feminists that her brother would definitely appoint only abortion advocates to key federal court positions, including the Supreme Court.

"There are three things my brother is going to do when he's elected president," Peggy Kerry told members of the National Organization for Women (NOW) and the Feminist Majority, according to a Washington Times report.

"He will ... appoint pro-choice judges to the Supreme Court," Kerry told the crowd.

Kerry's sister, who has worked for Planned Parenthood, also said the Massachusetts senator would restore funding to the UNFPA.

President Bush has slashed the agency's $34 million in taxpayer funding in each of the last three years because of its ties to China's population control program that involves forced abortions and sterilizations.

According to Peggy Kerry, her brother would also make sure the United States radifies the CEDAW treaty, the Times reports. That's an international treaty that has drawn criticisms from pro-life organizations and President Bush because it endorses abortion.

Some pro-life advocates are concerned about Peggy's involvement in promoting her brother and her comments about the United Nations.

Peggy Kerry is an employee at the State Department who was appointed during the latter part of the Clinton administration. In her position, she maintains contact with various groups that lobby and educate members of the United Nations.

At the State Department, she drew criticism for setting up events for Catholics for a Free Choice, including a press conference where the pro-abortion group announced its effort to have the Vatican removed from the U.N., according to a Friday Fax report.

One high-ranking governmental official told the Friday Fax, "Even if it's legal, how can she claim to effectively represent Bush's policies at the UN, if she is bashing those same policies in a speech in Boston."

According to the Friday Fax, Peggy Kerry broke no laws in campaigning for her brother, though the State Department may have internal policies against it.
