Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- As a Senate committee votes today on what is the fifth pro-abortion health care "reform bill," a new poll shows a majority of Americans are still opposed. The Senate Finance Committee is expected to approve the Baucus health care bill, which allows massive abortion funding.

Although polling data has shown some movement in favor of the pro-abortion health care legislation pending in Congress, a new Rasmussen poll released today reveals opposition is holding steady.

Just 44 percent of voters nationwide favor the health care reform bills, none of which contain limits like the Hyde amendment on abortion funding. That is down two percent from the 46 percent level of support Rasmussen showed earlier this month.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds 50 percent of Americans are opposed to the government-run health care plans.

The numbers have been remarkably stable throughout the debate and have moved in favor of the bills as the focus on them has been less intense of late. However, with the House and Senate expected to vote on the bills this month, that could shift back to the stronger opposition Rasmussen measured in mid-late September when as many as 56 percent and as few as 41 percent supported the legislation.

Currently, 23% strongly favor the legislative effort and 39% are strongly opposed, and intensity has favored opponents throughout the debate.

Other polling data has shown Americans do not want abortion funding in health care reform legislation.

Conducted by International Communications Research from September 16-20, the most recent survey indicated 67 percent of those surveyed opposed requiring people to pay for abortion coverage through their taxes and 56 percent opposed making them do so through their insurance premiums.

The survey also asked: “If the choice were up to you, would you want your own insurance policy to include abortion?” Sixty-eight percent of U.S. adults said ‘No’ and only 24 percent said ‘Yes.'

Public Opinion Strategies found 58% of Americans disagree with the statement, “If the government is going to make a public health plan available for all Americans it has an obligation to provide abortion services under that plan.” Just 38 percent support it.

The analysis shows 80 percent of Republicans disagree, 60 percent of independents disagree and 39 percent of Democrats disagree.

And a more recent Rasmussen poll found a plurality of Americans don't want abortion funding in the health care bills.

The survey showed 48% believe any government-subsidized health care plan should be prohibited from covering abortions. Just 13 percent want the health care bills to make it a requirement that abortions are funded.
