Sponsor of "Common Ground" Abortion Bill Bashes Pro-Life Advocates in Fundraiser

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Rosa DeLauro has deceived the media and hopes to deceive pro-life advocates into thinking her Congressional bill is an attempt at "common ground" on abortion. But, the House member from Connecticut exposes her hand in a new fundraising email for Emily's List that bashes pro-life advocates.

DeLauro is the co-sponsor of a new bill along with pro-abortion Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio that is billed as a middle ground in the abortion debate.

The measure, which provides funding for the Planned Parenthood abortion business and would require direct taxpayer-funding of abortions, has been panned by pro-life advocates as disingenuous.

Now, DeLauro tips her hand in a Tuesday fundraising pitch for the pro-abortion group Emily's List, and shows how much contempt she has for pro-life advocates.

"Disrupting town hall meetings, running radio ads attacking my colleagues, targeting 70 districts in 2010," she complains. "[Pro-life advocates] will do whatever it takes to regain the majority in the House."

"It's a chilling thought, given the work we need to do to get our country back on track. But I'm not discouraged; I'm fighting back," DeLauro says.

"And so is EMILY's List. They're working to protect my fellow Democratic incumbents under attack by the GOP and helping to elect more pro-choice Democratic women who will reject the political games of the right and work toward positive change in Washington," DeLauro continues.

She calls he move by pro-life advocates to oppose the pro-abortion health care bills in Congress an "onslaught" from people who are "desperate to regain power" and she labels it "cynical politics at its worst."

"The fact that they're interfering with a forum that gives Americans an opportunity to talk directly with their Representatives infuriates me," she says of those concerned about the abortion and euthanasia components of the health care bills.

"But I'm not going to give them an inch. I'm frustrated by their attacks, and ready to fight back," the former NARAL executive director says in comments that aren't meant to inspire unity and build bridges.

DeLauro closes by asking the abortion advocates to donate to Emily's List so they can "outpace" the "cynical strategy" of pro-life advocates.

With fundraising missives like this one, pro-life groups, none of which have put their imprimatur on DeLauro's bill, have reasons to be cynical.
