Pro-Life Group Condemns President Barack Obama For Turning Tax Day Into Abortion Funding Day

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A pro-life women's group says Americans have another reason to be upset today other than having to spend countless hours and money making sure their tax returns are properly completed. The Susan B. Anthony List says President Barack Obama is sending more of Americans' hard-earned tax dollars to promote the abortion agenda than ever before.

"Despite his promises to find 'common ground' on abortion, President Obama's policy decisions are already impacting and alienating American taxpayers," SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser told LifeNews.com on Wednesday.

"What a difference a year makes," Dannenfelser added and pointed to Obama's decision to overturn the Mexico City Policy, the Bush administration rules that prevented sending public funds to pro-abortion groups and abortion businesses.

Although the money doesn't pay for abortions directly, the pro-life women's leader says the tax dollars primarily go to two abortion businesses that perform abortions and lobby other nations to change their pro-life laws prohibiting or reducing the number of abortions.

"Thanks to President Obama, taxpayers are now subsidizing abortion providers like the Planned Parenthood Federation and Marie Stopes International, who will promote abortion overseas," Dannenfelser complains.

She said Obama is breaking his pledge to reduce abortions by funding the businesses that do them.

"Common sense dictates one truism: we won't find reductions in abortion as long as we continue to subsidize and promote it at taxpayers' expense. The Obama administration's promise to find ways to reduce abortion numbers rings hollow in such an environment," Dannenfelser said.

"And thanks to the abortion-friendly leadership in Congress, domestic taxpayer funding for the nation's number-one abortion provider is on the rise. Planned Parenthood funding is up, even as they post over one billion dollars in revenue and a profit of eighty-five million dollars," she added.

The SBA List president told LifeNews.com that the abortion funding decisions and the impact they have on working families is a not-so-surprising conclusion affected by the candidates Americans supported in last November's elections.

"Clearly, votes at the ballot box and on Capitol Hill have consequences. More of today's taxpayers are recognizing that their hard-earned dollars are going toward a hefty abortion bailout," Dannenfelser said.

Despite the funding, the women's leader notes that more and more pro-life advocates have spoken up -- and will need to continue speaking up -- if they don't want the abortion industry to receive more of their money.

"Already this year tens of thousands of Americans have asked Congress to respect the consciences of taxpayers and stop the abortion bailout. As Congress begins the new appropriations process, it would do well to heed the voices of constituents and stop the flow of taxpayer dollars to the abortion industry," she told LifeNews.com.
